¿How to get to Puerto Nariño?

Getting to Puerto Nariño is quite an adventure. There are no roads, no traffic, just the majestic Amazon River taking you to your destination. Here we tell you how to do it!

  • First, Leticia

All start in Leticia, the capital of the Colombian Amazon. You can arrive by plane from Bogotá (there are no roads to get here), the flight takes two hours and when you land, you will immediately feel the heat and humidity of the Amazon welcoming you.

The airlines that fly to this destination are Avianca or Latam, it is also important to mention that upon arrival at the General Alfredo Vásquez Cobo International Airport you have to pay an tourism tax of $45,000 Colombian pesos (cash only).

  • Heading to the river port of Leticia

From the airport you can take a taxi that costs around $20,000 Colombian pesos or a mototaxi that is taken outside the airport. For the mototaxi you must walk approximately 10 minutes to where they are parked and they charge around $10,000 Colombian pesos. Either of these two options will take you to the Leticia pier in about 15 minutes.

Once in the river port of Leticia you must locate the transport companies to purchase tickets to Puerto Nariño. We recommend purchasing the ticket in advance due to the high flow of passengers traveling from Leticia. Each ticket costs $42,000 one way (cash only). These boats have the following schedules:

Leticia to Puerto Nariño 7 am, 9 am, 12 pm and 2pm

Puerto Nariño to Leticia 7 am,  10 am y  1:30 pm and 3:30 pm

It is important that the flight arrives in Leticia at the same time as the boats leave, otherwise you will have to stay in Leticia until the next day. Unless your intention is to stay in Leticia or another nearby place first before boarding the boat to go to Puerto Nariño.

  • Traveling down the river

The boat ride takes about two hours if the river is high or up to three hours during the dry season. This tour is like being in a live documentary! You will see endless jungle, indigenous communities on the banks, pink dolphins (if you are lucky) and of course the brown water of the most powerful river in the world taking you deeper and deeper into the jungle.

  • Arrival in Puerto Nariño

And before you know it, you’ll be in Puerto Nariño, the only municipality in the Colombian Amazon, a town without cars. Here you just walk, breathe nature and enjoy the slow pace of the jungle.

Upon arrival, you will have to pay a local tax of $20,000 Colombian pesos (cash only), this payment includes access to the municipality’s viewpoint.
