Travel Tips
The Colombian Amazon has a humid tropical climate, with most days being hot and the area receiving abundant rainfall year-round. Therefore, we recommend travelers pack light with the following items:
- Light and comfortable clothing: long-sleeved shirts and long pants, preferably made of breathable materials to protect against insects and the sun. Quick-drying clothing.
- Light rain jacket: unexpected rain is common.
- Appropriate footwear: comfortable and waterproof for hiking on trails. We also recommend a pair of long socks for when wearing rubber boots.
- Sun protection: sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat or cap.
- Insect repellent: especially for mosquitoes, which are common in the region.
- Small suitcase: for short hikes, with enough space to carry water, snacks, and other essential items.
- Thermos for water (reusable).
- Flashlight and spare battery: we suggest a headlamp with a red light for use at night to avoid attracting insects.
- Prescribed and personal medication.
- Camera and cell phone: so you can record and photograph your adventure.
- Ziploc bags of various sizes to keep your gear, documents, and other items protected from moisture.
- Travel documents: passport, ID, or any special permit, as well as your travel insurance.
- Swimsuit and sandals.
- Cash: Most places, banks, and exchange offices in Leticia only accept cash.
Optional
- Rubber boots (if you don’t have them, we’ll provide them at SATORI or rent them at the town center).
- Binoculars
Final Recommendations
- Make sure you pack something light and functional; we don’t recommend wheeled suitcases if you want to travel comfortably.
- Research and consult with a professional about vaccinations and health measures before traveling, such as the yellow fever vaccine.
